Dr. Kinya Swanson earned her B.A. in psychology from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. She then attended the clinical psychology program at the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) at Rutgers University. She completed her clinical internship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). She earned her Psy.M. and Psy.D. Degrees from Rutgers University. She is a New Jersey Licensed Psychologist.
Dr. Swanson specializes in both forensic and clinical psychology. In her forensic practice, she primarily focuses on conducting comprehensive evaluations of children, adolescents and adults in the areas of: custody/guardianship, parental fitness, parenting time, bonding, impact of divorce/separation, functional impairment, learning and behavioral issues, risk/needs assessments, psychosocial assessments, diagnostic clarification (including determination of Axis I vs. Axis II disorders), and family violence. Dr. Swanson has been called upon to give expert testimony in court.
Dr. Swanson emphasizes treatment of Anxiety and Mood disorders as well as Family/Interpersonal dysfunction. She is a culturally-competent, ethical, insight-oriented clinician with sub-specialties in Wellness and Couples therapy. Dr. Swanson embraces a holistic approach to treatment.
